Shamed Douglas Ross has been forced into an apology after putting waving a flag at Kilmarnock v St Johnston ahead of commemorating Victory in Japan in his own Westminster constituency.

The event in Forres had been planned months in advance but when Ross got the invite for a £445 appearance fee and expenses from a gig 200 miles away honouring the war dead was put into perspective as he hit the road for Ayrshire despite the impact of a global pandemic in his own constituency.

After the issue was highlighted he was forced into an apology with his match fee but not expenses being donated to a local charity.

The Daily Record reports:

I was selected to officiate a game before I was invited to the VJ Day event, and I offered apologies in advance that I could not attend. I had not anticipated there being an official VJ Day event given the current restrictions due to Covid, but when it became clear there was a conflict, I should have asked to be taken off my game. I got this wrong and I apologise.

Seven days earlier Ross had put an appearance fee and expenses in Govan ahead of the needs of his constituents.

The leader of the Scottish Conservative and Unionist party has been given next weekend off from SFA appointments.
