Ron Gordon of Hibs has started the ball rolling for Celtic to have points deducted.

Speaking with David Tanner on Hibs TV the owner of the Edinburgh side said that he wouldn’t be opposed to points deductions for Aberdeen and Celtic.

It seems to have forgotten Gordon’s mind that Ross County had a wasted journey from Dingwall only to find out that Hibs hadn’t bothered to get their players tested.

Perhaps he was out of the country when Dundee United discovered that they had taken part in a match against nine untested footballers. The club involved had no misunderstandings when they refused to allow two assistant referees to enter Murray Park because they hadn’t been tested in the previous seven days..

Picking up on his Hibs TV comments the Daily Record reports:

Asked about the prospect of points deductions during an interview with Hibs TV’s The Match programme, he said: “I would not be opposed to that. I think there has to be somewhere you draw the line. It needs to be proposed before you could actually implement it, but I believe there would be support around the league for that.

“Everyone needs to chip in and behave. “It [the breaches] is disappointing when you contrast it with all the effort the leagues and the clubs have gone to in order to get the game back in a safe way. All clubs, including Hibs, have gone to great lengths, to put resources in place to create the right environment – a safe environment – so it’s disheartening when a couple of players go off the track.

“That really jeopardises the whole game, which is a real shame. Hopefully, there have been lessons learned and we can stay on track and continue to do the sort of things we have been doing, because we have been very meticulous about staying safe.”

Former Hibs chairman Rod Petrie was a member of the SFA licencing committee in 2011 that provided the old Rangers club to be presented for the qualifying stages of the Champions League despite having an overdue tax bill of £2.8m in clear conflict with UEFA Financial Fair Play.

Petrie is now President of the Scottish Football Association. In March 2017 Easter Road hosted the international friendly between Scotland and Canada.
