Celtic appear content to play a waiting game in the transfer market to ensure that they get maximum value.

That policy didn’t pay off when Brentford signed Ivan Toney but with less than a month to go Alfie Doughty and Ben Davies fall into that category.

Both players, currently at Charlton and Preston are in the final year of their current deals and able to sign pre-contract deals in January.

It can lead to a game of poker between the player and their current club but it seems to be a route that Celtic are ready to take after signing three players plus two loan deals since the window opened.

Going past October 5 with Greg Taylor as the only left-sided defender at the club would seem to be a significant risk.

Elsewhere the squad seems fairly stable but so far there has bee no significant departures, if that was to change there would be an expectation of a like for like replacement in terms of position if not price tag.
