Shane Duffy has admitted that it’ll be upto Celtic and Brighton to decide whether or not he extends his season long loan.

At the start of this month the two clubs managed to work out the terms for a loan deal but a permanent move will be more complex.

Duffy is under contract with Brighton until 2023 but Graham Potter is taking the club in a different direction to the style preferred by Chris Hughton in which the Irishman excelled.

At the age of 28 it is a crucial stage in the defender’s career, there’s little doubt that he is open to a longer stay but that will be out of his hands.

Asked about the prospect of a permanent move to Celtic, Duffy told the Daily Record:

I’m not sure where it stands at the minute. I’m just really focused on being here for this year and when the season is over, if it has been successful, the two clubs have to sit down and talk to each other. It goes from there but I have to just really focus on this season and enjoy it and try to be successful here.

With two goals in two appearances Duffy has made as big an impact in attack as in defence where he has added a very significant threat at set pieces.
