Celtic appear to have driven through a value for money deal to get Shane Duffy on a season long loan.

Brighton are among the lowest payers in the EPL but with three years left to run on his contract Duffy is assured of a higher wage packet than any of his new team-mates at Celtic.

The player’s interest in joining Celtic has never been in doubt but striking a deal between the two clubs was always going to be delicate.

Scott Burns of the Daily Record has a good grasp of transfer details, looking at the Duffy deal he explained:

The defender will join up with Neil Lennon’s side when he returns from Republic of Ireland duty next week, having agreed a move from Brighton. Record Sport understands Duffy has forced through the move after insisting Parkhead is the only place he’ll leave the south coast for.

The Seagulls have been forced to back down from their initial demand for a £2million loan fee, with Celtic now expected to pay half that while picking up around 50 per cent of his £45,000-a-week wage.

From this account it seems that the formal completion will come following Ireland’s home match with Finland on Sunday.

Tomorrow night Stephen Kenny takes charge of the international side for the first time with a Nations League match away to Bulgaria which will bring Celtic fans upto date with the much-anticipated addition to Neil Lennon’s defence.
