Anthony Joseph has tweeted to clarify AC Milan’s position with Kris Ajer.
Yesterday quotes from Paolo Maldini emerged which although name checking the Celtic defender added that it wasn’t a deal that they were working on.
Since the spring time and continuing through a change of agent there has been speculation that Ajer is a target for AC Milan but with two weeks left of the transfer window it seems that no bid has been made.
Last night, Joseph of Sky Sports News, tweeted:
AC Milan sporting director Paolo Maldini has told @SkySport that the club are interested in Celtic defender Kristoffer Ajer, but admitted there are other options on their list of signing targets.

I think Celtic will be really busy in the next couple of weeks. I see both ajer & Edouard being sold.

I’d be very surprised if Edouard goes… unless someone throws silly money at Celtic in the next couple of weeks. Very few clubs spending big in the grand scheme of things.

Milan had pursued Fiorentina’s Nikola Milenkovic, but have been put off by the £37m price tag placed on him.

With two years left on the contract that he signed in 2018 Ajer is entering a critical phase in his Celtic career with Ryan Christie, Odsonne Edouard and Olivier Ntcham in the same situation.
Shane Duffy’s arrival on loan from Brighton has balanced out the defensive numbers following the departure of Jozo Simunovic when his contract expired.
In financial terms an offer of around £20m for Ajer would be difficult for Celtic to turn down but on the pitch Neil Lennon would be looking for a direct replacement if the Norwegian is moved on during this window.
