Celtic fans weren’t pleased with the way that the club announced that Boli Bolingoli had joined Basaksehir on a season long loan.

Club media is by definition supportive with the Belgian getting the traditional ‘we wish him well’ as Celtic got round to announcing the departure and the end of a very difficult chapter.

After the havoc caused by his trip to Spain and flouting of quarantine rules there aren’t many fans wishing Bolingoli well in his Turkish move.

A year ago thousands of Celtic fans were adding his name to their twitter handles but that support turned spectacularly last month as the enormity of his Spanish action sunk in.

Matches against St Mirren and Aberdeen were postponed, the pre-season build up was disrupted with the finger of suspicion pointed at the club from across Scottish society.

After a very forgettable year at Celtic it seems incredible that Bolingoli will be with a Champions League club but that is precisely why clubs and players employ agents.

Today’s announcement highlights how short Celtic are in that area of the park with further questions raised about the decision to release Jonny Hayes. Greg Taylor is the only left sided defender left at the club.

With the exception of games against Celtic the fans genuinely wish Hayes well, the only reason for expressing that sentiment to Bolingoli will be for the move to be converted into a permanent deal next summer.
