Boli Bolingoli has joined Basaksahir of Turkey on a season long loan.

The defender has been linked with Roma and French side Amiens but early this afternoon news broke that he had moved to Turkey.

Bolingoli still has one match of an SFA suspension to serve but his departure, temporary at present will be a great relief to Celtic who face a disrepute charge over his ill-fated trip to Malaga last month.

The Basaksahir website reports:

Our club has leased Belgian football player Boli Bolingoli-Mbombo for a year with the option to purchase Celtic shirt. Our vice-presidents Mesut Altan, Mustafa Saral and our CEO Mustafa Erö?üt were present at the signing ceremony of the successful left-back player.

The 25-year-old football player, who played in Club Brugge and Rapid Wien in the past, will wear the number 63 jersey in our club. We welcome Boli Bolingoli-Mbombo to our family and wish them success with our orange-navy blue jersey.

After joining from Rapid Vienna last July, without speaking to Neil Lennon, the Belgian went straight into the Celtic side, effectively as Kieran Tierney’s replacement.

As Celtic hit form last autumn he seemed to be coming into some form but after picking up an injury his place was shared by Jonny Hayes and Greg Taylor.

Although he has a contract until June 2023 it is highly unlikely that Bolingoli will be back at Celtic with the club suffering from two postponements as punishment for his Spanish trip and refusal to observe quarantine.
