Jermain Defoe, Jordan Jones and George Edmondson have all been dropped from Steven Gerrard’s Europa League squad.

UEFA regulations limit the number of players developed outside of Scotland from the squad which has forced the Ibrox boss to axe some of his star signings.

Allan McGregor, Ryan Jack, Scott Arfield and Greg Stewart are the only players in the current squad to have been developed within Scotland with Defoe, Edmondson and Jones all coming from English clubs.

New signing Bongani Zungu makes it into the squad alongside the other summer signings such as Cedric Itten and Kemar Roofe.

Defoe turned 38 on Thursday and agreed a 12 month deal in the summer after being on loan from Bournemouth for the previous 18 months.

Jones and Edmundson were signed in the summer of 2019 but miss out with Brandon Barker and Leon Balogun being preferred.
