Leigh Griffiths has targeted the Glasgow derby on October 17 for his next intervention on the SPFL title race.

The striker ended a seven month wait by scoring against St Johnstone today and has a fortnight to prove that he is worth a place in the next SPFL match.

As recently as last week there was chat that Moi Elyounoussi had eased Griffiths back to being Celtic’s fifth choice striker but that situation changed dramatically today.

We’ve got massive games coming up after the international break. The big one against Rangers then AC Milan, they are the kind of games that you want to be involved in, its time for me to get my fitness up over the next couple of weeks and I look forward to Rangers.

Most of Neil Lennon’s squad will spend the best part of a fortnight on international duty with Griffiths among the ‘leftovers’ training at Lennoxtown.

With Odsonne Edouard out of sorts and Albian Ajeti injured the stage could be set for a dramatic return to the starting XI for the former Hibs and Dundee striker.

Since the turn of the year Griffiths has scored 12 goals in 14 appearances.
