Jack Hendry’s career is enjoying a remarkable resurgence with Oostende.

In mid-July the defender made the switch to Belgium with most Celtic fans pleased to see him off the scene for the season as the hoops geared up for a vital campaign.

Since being signing in January 2018 by Brendan Rodgers the former Wigan and Partick Thistle player had looked out of his depth despite the faith and £1.5m transfer fee invested by the former manager.

Hendry filled in for Mikael Lustig at right-back after arriving but by the start of the 2018/19 season he had fallen behind Dedryk Boyata, Kris Ajer, Filip Benkovic and Jozo Simunovic for a place in central defence.

Neil Lennon’s arrival didn’t improve Hendry’s first team prospects with a contract running to 2023 a millstone to the club with the player rightly unwilling to walk away from the contract that had been signed in good faith.

A move to Melbourne City in January 2020 promised a new start but in just his second game he suffered a bad knee injury which was soon followed by Lockdown.

Oostende struggled last season, picking up 22 points from 29 matches but avoiding relegation with the season called early.

Tonight, after a second successive 3-0 home win Oostende are sitting in 10th place with 15 points from nine matches. After playing in four successive matches Hendry is enjoying his best run of matches since leaving Dundee for Celtic almost three years ago.
