David Marshall has revealed that a move to Celtic during the summer was never likely.

With Fraser Forster and Craig Gordon moving on it seemed a logical move with the Rumour Mill in overdrive as Wigan went into administration and the Glasgow born keeper bought a house in his home city.

Last season Steve Clarke brought Marshall back into the Scotland set up where he worked with Celtic goalie coach Stevie Woods.

It all seemed to join up but ahead of facing Serbia tomorrow The Sun asked the keeper the big question:

Marshall had already bought a home in Glasgow, but said: “A return to Celtic was never close. I joined Derby, signed for a couple of years and I am really delighted with that.”

Celtic opted to sign Vasilis Barkas from AEK Athens with the Greek internationalist struggling to make an impression behind a constantly changing defence which has switched regularly from a back three to a back four.

Scott Bain has come in for the last five matches after Barkas was injured against AC Milan.

Although Derby are at the bottom of the Championship with one win from 11 matches Marshal has been excused from any blame over results with the squad including Wayne Rooney, Graeme Shinnie and Martyn Waghorn.
