Neil Lennon has admitted that the negative reaction of supporters has featured in his conversations with Peter Lawwell.

Over the last month concern has turned to anger with a run of two wins in eight matches seeing Celtic lose ground in the SPFL and staring at an early exit from the Europa League.

The anger and frustration surfaced at Celtic Park this morning with a banner protest from the Green Brigade calling for the removal of Lennon as manager.

Lawwell hasn’t said anything in public this season but is in daily contact with Lennon and according to the manager ‘very, very supportive’.

Lennon was asked if the drama and hysteria around the club was on the radar of directors in his conversation with them:

Well obviously all of us are not happy with the way things are panning out at the minute but there is a calmness about Peter and the board, there’s no panic. We have been over the course and distance many times before. I speak to Peter every day. He is very, very supportive, as he is with the players and my backroom team as well.

So it is as you are, let’s get improvement, let’s get some wins, let’s play the type of football we know we are capable of, which we showed in the last 20 minutes at Easter Road, and we will be absolutely OK.

Tomorrow night Celtic face Sparta Prague in the Czech capital knowing that they need to win to retain an interest in the Europa League.

Leigh Griffiths is missing from the squad due to a knee injury but Chris Jullien is back in contention with changes expected in the Celtic defence.
