Very few Celtic fans are in any doubt about Jim White’s dislike of Celtic, to be diplomatic about.
The former Kelvinside Academy pupil likes to pass himself off as a down the middle football fan. Someone in love with the game but no club in particular. An image that he cultivates on Sky Sports and TalkSPORT despite the partisanship of others showing him up.
The Souness days saw White in his prime as the young media man about town. Partying with his Ibrox heroes to the extent that he would dress up in the full Orange Order regalia with Mark Walters.
That decade ended in misery, when Wim Jansen Stopped The Ten White was almost in tears behind the Celtic dug-out as an Ibrox dream died in front of his eyes.
Over the last decade White and many of his cronies have suffered. Badly. Not just Celtic winning, not just watching Kevin Kyle, Bilel Mohsni, Joey Barton and Andy Halliday wearing the colours of the Tribute Act.
Across the city two Irishman have led Celtic to glory and they’ve had to put a brave face on every trophy delivered by Brendan Rodgers and Neil Lennon.
Now casting any pretence of neutrality aside White is willing to broadcast any gossip he can muster that can destabilise Celtic.
Eddie Howe mutually consented from Bournemouth on August 1. Travel and leisure opportunities are greatly curtailed, a round of golf with the Celtic CEO seems as unlikely as White acting as MC at a Celtic Supporters 9-in-a-row function.
The Daily Record reports:
White said on talkSPORT: “One name that keeps on getting mentioned, and I cannot confirm this, but it’s been reported to me that Eddie Howe was in Scotland recently playing golf with Peter Lawwell. Eddie Howe is ready to take a job back in football. Would Eddie Howe be the man for Celtic?
With all due to respect to Neil who I know is still in the job and I apologise for talking like this, but we have to. Would Howe be the man? If you’re a Celtic fan, would you want him?
I cannot confirm this but it’s been reported to me and perhaps tomorrow White might like to broadcast details about Scott Arfield’s recent very lively birthday party, or Alfredo Morelos’ holiday destinations this summer. I apologise for talking like this but we have to.
