Neil Lennon has told Celtic TV viewers that David Turnbull and Leigh Griffiths need to be fitter.
In-house media rarely offers up anything that could be deemed controversial but it seems incredible that in December any player should be short of fitness.
Match practise could be an issue with the two players only starting one match each so far this season with neither completing a full 90 minutes.
Turnbull was signed from Motherwell at the end of August while Griffiths has had a series of on-going issues all year but if there is one thing that a club can ensure it is the fitness of players.
Asked about Griffiths and Turnbull after 1 minute 30 seconds Lennon said
They need to be fitter and they need to bring that bit of freshness because we’ve got a lot of games.
Both players were introduced during the second half of yesterday’s 1-1 draw at home with St Johnstone which left Celtic trailing by 13 points at the top of the table.
Neither Turnbull or Griffiths were involved in Celtic’s Europa League defeat in Milan in midweek, giving them additional time at Lennoxtown to prepare for yesterday’s match.
