John Kennedy has admitted that Celtic are considering a move for Filip Benkovic.

Before the transfer window opened Neil Lennon’s priority was to bring in a winger but that changed when the extent of Chris Jullien’s injury became known.

The Frenchman crashed into a goalpost during the 2-0 win over Dundee United on December 30, at Ibrox three days later Lennon revealed that knee ligament damage would see him out of contention for three or four months.

With uncertainty over the future of Shane Duffy Celtic look short of experienced options in central defence with Nir Bitton, Hatem Abd Elhamed and Stephen Welsh the remaining options.

Discussing the need to bring in a central defender Glasgow Live reports Kennedy saying:

It’s probably a position now, with Christopher Jullien being injured, that we have to look at. We are a bit short in that area now.

Filip is one who we are very well aware of and have spoken about. We know what he is capable of, and he’s a guy who has been here and knows what it’s about. So he is certainly on a shortlist of options to strengthen the centre-back position

Last season Benkovic started six matches on loan at Bristol City and has just returned to Leicester after making just one appearance for Cardiff City.

Bitton is suspended for Monday’s match against Hibs.
