John Kennedy has admitted that Celtic are looking to get transfer business completed as quickly as possible.

Bringing in a central defender is the clear priority with Chris Jullien facing three or four months out of action but it is unlikely that anyone will be added to the squad before Monday’s match at home to Hibs.

Filip Benkovic is a confirmed target after his loan deal with Cardiff City was cut short with Brendan Rodgers agreeable to the Croat returning to the club that he spent the 2018/19 season with.

Q) Is it important to get business done as early as possible, are you on track to do that?

J K Yes, we’ve been chatting all along, even leading into, with Christopher Jullien’s situation came round. Again we want to get it done as quickly as possible but it has to be right for everybody, it is not always as easy as saying ‘yes that’s what we want’ and going and doing it. There are other clubs involved, there is the player themselves. I’m sure Filip or anyone else will have a number of options, it is upto us if they are the right person to go and convince them that we are the right club for them.

Despite Rodgers taking over at Leicester while he was on loan at Celtic Benkovic has bee unable to make any ground towards a first team place with Jonny Evans recently signing a new contract.

The Croatian u-21 internationalist went on loan to Bristol City last January, starring six matches and making four substitute appearances either side of Lockdown.

At Cardiff this season he made one appearance, in a 2-1 defeat at Wycombe on December 29 before returning to Leicester.
