Peter Lawwell has briefed some Celtic fans to expect a new manager- but it won’t be of the calibre of Brendan Rodgers.

In 2016 every aspect of the club was raised when the former Liverpool boss replaced Ronny Deila, bringing in a period of unprecedented domestic success and back-to-back appearances in the group stage of the Champions League.

This season the club has regressed badly, the wrong type of records have been racked up with four consecutive home defeats in the autumn with the club out of three cup competitions by the end of November.

At the start of December Celtic announced that they would be carrying out a managerial review in the new year with the departure of Neil Lennon appearing to be inevitable.

A high profile, demanding and ambitious managerial appointment is badly needed but following a meeting between Lawwell and the Affiliation that seems highly unlikely as Kevin Graham explained.

On Saturday’s ACSOM podcast Graham said:

I’m a member of a Supporters Club that is a member of the Affiliation and they had a meeting with Peter Lawwell in December and the minutes are out there for all the members to read and he said that the review would have been completed on the 2nd of January, it is in those minutes.

That review doesn’t seem to be complete yet so I’ve got to question why that review is not yet complete. In that meeting he also said that we wouldn’t be looking for another Brendan Rodgers because opportunities like that don’t usually present themselves because of the market that we are in, maybe that’s why I’ve been trying to talk myself round to Jack Ross

Following the 2019 Scottish Cup Final Lennon became permanent manager on a 12 month rolling contract.
