The journalist closest to Rafa Benitez has played down speculation that the former Liverpool boss could be about to join Celtic.
Based in England, Guillem Balague has been sharing his insight into Spanish football with Sky Sports viewers while also getting the inside story into the successes of Benitez and Pep Guardola in the English game.
Benitez’s most remarkable success was in 2005 when Liverpool came back from the dead to win the Champions League in Istanbul by beating AC Milan on penalties.
Balague recorded that triumph in ‘A Season on the Brink: Rafael Benitez, Liverpool and the Path to European Glory’ and has watched closely as the career of the 60-year-old weaved through Napoli, Chelsea, Inter Milan, Real Madrid and Newcastle through to Chelsea.
Rafa Benitez to Celtic? There was interest in him but not an option today
He’s going to rest for a bit, despite offers (from Germany, also a national side…)
By the way, about Celtic: there is a false document doing the rounds (check the phone number ?) https://t.co/X40LCU1riq

Benitez has been home with his family in Merseyside since November, at the age of 60 he could still have a decade involved in management at the top level.
On the surface it would appear unlikely that Celtic could put together a proposal to tempt Benitez to Scotland but in 2016 the same was being said as they looked for a successor to Ronny Deila.
