Declan Gallagher is hoping for a shock transfer back to Celtic.

The Motherwell skipper left the hoops in 2011 without a single first team appearance, moving to Clyde, Stranraer, Dundee and Livingston before flourishing at Fir Park over the last 18 months.

Gallagher’s form has made him a regular in the Scotland side with a clause in his Motherwell contract triggering a 12 month extension if he plays six more matches in this season’s SPFL.

It seems incredible that his agent allowed a binding clause in the contract he signed as a free agent from Livingston in the summer of 2019 but with his stock at a high point on the back of Scotland’s qualification for Euro 2020 now is the prime time for the 29-year-old to earn a bumper contract.

The Daily Record reports:

A source close to Gallagher said: “He is desperate to play for Celtic and in the current climate, he would be a brilliant signing. But with this contract and the automatic extension, he feels he has a gun to his head.”

With hris Jullien out injured for three to four months elti are expected to bring in a new central defender during the January transfer window.
