Dermot Desmond has given Neil Lennon a Vote of Confidence in the New Year Management Review promised by Peter Lawwell.

Celtic’s dire form during October and November- resulting in a run of just two wins from 12 matches- sparked protests from supporters as the league challenge collapsed alongside humiliating Europa League results and a Betfred up KO from Ross County.

The backlash forced the club to start communicating with supporters with results picking up slightly as Ismaila Soro and David Turnbull were brought into the team.

Lawwell told shareholders how they had invested £35m into the team but despite clinching the Scottish Cup by beating Hearts on penalties defeat at Ibrox on Saturday leaves Celtic trailing by 19 points with most fans giving up on the dream of 10-in-a-row.

Despite the prospect of five months of meaningless SPFL matches Lennon retains the baking of the club’s largest shareholder with The Sun reporting:

NEIL LENNON has been given the backing of Celtic’s major shareholder Dermot Desmond to see out the season.

SunSport can reveal the promised New Year review of the under-pressure Celts boss has led to him getting the continued support of Desmond and chief executive Peter Lawwell.

Celtic’s 1-0 defeat to Rangers at the weekend left them 19 points behind the Premiership leaders and their ten in a row hopes hanging by a thread.

Lennon’s side have already crashed out of three other competitions?—?the   Champions League at the qualifying stage, the Europa League, where they finished bottom of their section, and the Betfred Cup, after being humbled by Ross County.

But it’s understood Desmond saw enough in the Hoops’ performance at Ibrox — they were on top until Nir Bitton’s red card in the 62nd-minute — to believe Lennon is sufficiently reviving the team.

Lennon was given the manager’s job on a permanent basis with a 12 month rolling contract soon after the 2019 Sottish up win over Hearts at Hampden.
