With the lower two divisions of the SPFL closed down Iain McMenemy has chosen to thrust himself forward as the voice of reason for Scotland’s cuddly ‘community’ clubs.

During the summer the Stenhousemuir chief had a regular gig with Radio Scotland as they took the SPFL apart for calling the season with 75% of the matches played in the face of a global pandemic that has crippled economies worldwide. His lobbying on behalf of the Orange Order is something that he steers well clear of with his ‘nice guy’ hat on.

As recently as September 2019 McMenemy was representing the Orange Order in the Scottish Parliament, something that he isn’t keen to promote in his various profiles, and something he is never asked about on Radio Scotland.

CPG on Combatting Sectarianism in Scottish Society Meeting Wednesday 25th September, 6pm, Committee Room 4 Present James Dornan MSP (Convener), Donald Cameron MSP (Deputy Convener), Duncan Morrow (Scottish Government Advisor on Sectarianism) David Duncan (Police Scotland), Paul Cameron (Police Scotland) , Iain McMenemy (Advisor to Grand Orange Lodge of Scotland), Simon Barrow, (Scottish Football Supporters Association), Lily Humphries (Scottish Liberal Democrats Research Office), Alan Russell (Supporters Direct Scotland), Andrew Westcott (North Kelvin Sports Development Group), Rod McKenzie (Scottish Professional Football League), Ian Maxwell (Scottish Football Association), Scott Spurlock (University of Glasgow) and Dave Scott (Nil by Mouth/Secretary)

On the website of his own company, Figure 11 Communications he describes himself as:

Iain McMenemy is the founder of Figure 11 PR & Communications and is responsible for the operation of the company and client relationships.

Iain has been involved in significant  high level comms activity for his whole working life.  This has  included developing programmes for Government Ministers and past Prime Ministers, delivering democracy into Eastern Europe following the collapse of communism in the early 1990s, and supervising the first free municipal elections in Srebrenica in Bosnia just after the civil war.

A former member of the TA, Iain served in a battlegroup in 2003 during the Iraq War, and now uses this experience as a regular media commentator on defence related issues.  He has appeared on all the major TV news channels and dozens of radio programmes.

According to his profile on The Drum:

Iain McMenemy started his career in communications at 18 years of age with one of the major UK political parties. Iain specialised in campaign and media management in a variety of roles for 11 years.

Whilst working in politics, Iain was chosen by various Government, cross-party and international groups to carry out consultancy work in Eastern Europe immediately after the collapse of communism. Iain visited Romania, Bulgaria, Latvia & Albania and taught democracy & communications.

One of Iain’s toughest undertakings was when he was asked to supervise the first municipal elections in Bosnia, just after the civil war. Iain was tasked with organising the polling in Srebrenica, the town sadly made famous due to the genocidal massacre that had taken place there during the conflict.

After leaving politics, Iain spent a few years working in property, in a communications role but with additional responsibility for land and property deals. Around the same time, Iain set up Halogen Communications along with two former colleagues.

In 2003, Iain, who was an active TA reserve soldier, was mobilised for the impending war in Iraq. Iain served with the Scots DG Battlegroup as part of ‘The Desert Rats’. For his service Iain was awarded the Iraq Campaign Medal along with an additional ‘Bar Decoration’ for active service in the war combat zone.

From 2003 to 2011, Iain continued to build Halogen Communications.
