After less than 48 hours in Dubai Shane Duffy has returned to the UK from Celtic’s January training camp.

The defender is on a season long loan from Brighton but second hand reports of his return make it clear that the decision isn’t related to a return to Brighton or another loan move. The news emerged after Duffy was pictured last night at Dubai Airport.

Duffy has found himself pushed down the pecking order at Celtic despite the expectations that accompanied his arrival in September following Celtic’s Champions League exit from Ferencvaros.

In recent matches Chris Jullien and Nir Bitton have been preferred to partner Kris Ajer in defence, when Duffy came on as a substitute in the recent defeat at Ibrox he was quickly booked, making little positive impact on the match.

Celtic’s next match is on Monday at home to Hibs in the SPFL with the squad expected to return to Scotland on Friday. Bitton is suspended for the Hibs match with Jullien expected to be out for three or four months due to knee ligament damage.
