Neil Lennon has claimed that there were a lot of things in Odsonne Edouard’s mind during the first half of the season.

The Frenchman is in his fourth season as a Celtic player but being away from home in your earlies twenties during a pandemic and Lockdown would test the resolve of the strongest of characters.

Before Lockdown kicked in last March Edouard was on fore- playing alongside Leigh Griffiths as Celtic took 28 points from 10 matches to claim the title following the winter break.

Between March and August it seems like a lot of unexpected events happened at Celtic with the early season uncertainty highlighted by the Champions League exit to Ferencvaros.

Edouard missed that match through injury but with Griffiths again unavailable the former Paris Saint Germain striker was carrying the striking burden as a potentially historic season kicked off.

At St Johnstone today his clinical finishing turned defeat into victory with Lennon asked about the striker’s recent improvement in form in the Daily Record.

He is definitely looking more and more like the player he was during last season. I don’t know (what is the difference). He just seems a lot more settled. I think there were a lot of things on his mind in the first half of this season.

He has really found his form now and we’re delighted because he makes us better. That’s the sort of form he was showing this time last season. It augurs well for between now and the end of the season. He is in great goalscoring form, but I was pleased with his all-round performance. His physicality was back, his running was better and certainly his technique on the ball was very good.

Today’s double took Edouard’s 2021 record to eight goals in seven matches.
