Stephen Welsh was pictured in training at Lennoxtown today and looks like continuing his run in the team at St Johnstone tomorrow.

It looked ominous for the young defender when he was stretchered off against St Mirren in midweek following a late lunge from Jon Obika that struck Welsh on the side of the foot after he had passed the ball.

After four minutes of treatment he was replaced by Shane Duffy, after the match the word was that it would be Thursday before the injury could be assessed.

Welsh has started Celtic’s last three matches alongside Kris Ajer in central defence with signs that there could be a partnership there to see the club through until the end of the season.

The midweek win was Welsh’s sixth start of the season with Neil Lennon changing his central defence on a regular basis.

Injuries to Chris Jullien and Nir Bitton haven’t helped but after waiting patiently Welsh will be keen to be in the side at St Johnstone tomorrow as Celtic chase a fourth successive victory.
