Image for Lennon makes ominous confession about Dom McKay

Neil Lennon has admitted that he hasn’t yet met up with Dom McKay.

On January 29 Celtic announced the appointment of their in-coming CEO with Lennon admitting that day that he hadn’t heard from Peter Lawwell’s successor.

McKay won’t officially take up his job until July 1 but it is natural that during the recruitment process and since his appointment thoughts would be given to the most important job at the club.

Lennon has enjoyed a very close relationship with Lawwell, regularly showering praise on his manager including a claim in 2019 that his CEO was worth every penny of the £3.5m he had picked up during the 2018/19 season that saw the club fail to reach the group stage of the Champions League.

McKay will have to hit the ground running after a disastrous year at Celtic with the club missing out on Champions League football for the third year running.

Lennon chose his words carefully speaking to the Daily Record but between the lines there is no mention of a phone call or message of support from the man that will replace Lawwell in just over four months time.

Discussing his plans going into next season the former Hibs and Bolton boss seems completely in the dark about how the club will operate from July 1.

We’re talking about the team, the present players and Peter planning and putting things in place for the new guy coming in. It all begins now. The preparations are ongoing. It’s obvious that gap needs to be filled by one or two people.

Whether that’s a director of football or another sort of person coming into the building remains to be seen. You’ve already got Dominic coming in. When it comes to contracts and budgets, then that needs to be looked at for next season. I haven’t met Dominic.

McKay looks like concentrating on the business side of the club with a specialist such as Fergal Harkin or David Webb coming in for a hands-on role with the playing side of the club.

Celtic have yet to make any comment on the managerial review that they announced on December 7.
