On Sunday night after overseeing another demoralising defeat, this time to Ross County in Dingwall Neil Lennon insisted that he was the man to rebuild Celtic in the summer.

It had been fitting that the hoops had lost out to a bread and butter set-piece finished off by a journey-man against a team bereft of ideas, imagination and most worryingly it appeared to have lost interest.

On the sidelines the usual scenes unfolded for students of body language, as a trio Lennon, John Kennedy and Gavin Strachan looked far from harmonious.

After another defeat Lennon smirked at the start of an interview with Sky Sports, an interview with BBC Scotland ended abruptly as he walked away.

The Sun reported:

During his post-match BBC Sportsound interview Lenny was asked a series of questions but when he was pressed about his future at the club by Rob MacLean, the Parkhead gaffer abruptly ended the interview.

Rob MacLean: “Does it feel like a big rebuild is required at Celtic?”

Neil Lennon: “Yes, I would say so, yes.”

MacLean: “Are you the man…”

Lennon : “I’ve done it before.”

MacLean: “…to do the rebuild.”

Lennon: “I don’t see why not.”

Forty-eight hours later Lennon had decided to resign, the story appeared in The Sun before being announced to the Stock Market at 7am on Wednesday.

Lennon’s desk and belongings will be cleared out of Lennoxtown today, John Kennedy will take charge of training with the outgoing manager left to consider his next move.

At the age of 49 the world of media and punditry looks much more likely than a return to management.
