Michael Stewart has replied to a Celtic fan questioning his criticism of Callum McGregor.

Over the last few seasons it has been normal for stats to emerge at this time revealing that the Celtic midfielder has played in more games and more minutes than anyone else in football.

In previous seasons this has been as part of a successful Celtic side but no fan needs reminded of how poor and underperforming the hoops have been this term.

McGregor has largely been above criticism, his 50-yard run and pass for David Turnbull was typical of his contribution to the season with no rumours or suggestions of unrest from the Academy graduate who was a mainstay of the Quadruple Treble.

Writing in The Sun, Stewart claimed that the Celtic midfielder was looking fatigued and off form compared to recent seasons.

Stewart’s opinion piece was on the growing influence of Scott McTominay at Manchester United and how he has been played out of position in defence for Scotland.

Over recent seasons, with the exception of Lockdown, McGregor has had to get used to a fortnight’s break between seasons, with Scotland scheduled to play in the finals of the European Championships this summer that scenario is set to continue.
