A Twitter user, listening into a Podcast between Graham Spiers and Stephen McGowan has claimed that Ivan Toney was inside Celtic Park and ready to sign for Celtic.
Last season the striker was in prolific form for Peterborough pushing Barry Fry into full salesman mode for a transfer fee with a year remaining on his contract.
Fry’s media relations are second to none with a constant stream of information becoming public to interest from one Scottish club through to claims that Celtic was the preferred destination for the striker.
Celtic are loathe to get into public auctions but when Gavin Strachan left Peterborough for Celtic it seemed like Toney could join him as the hoops looked for a striker with the strong possibility that Odsonne Edouard could leave.
In the end Celtic signed Albian Ajeti from West Ham for around £5m, Brentford spent a similar fee on Toney who has scored 24 goals in 30 Championship appearances with the Bees sitting in second place as they chase promotion to the EPL.
McGowan on podcast: “The one that sums it up best is Ivan Toney, who they had in Glasgow, actually in the building – who wanted to sign for Celtic and they could have got for 6 million quid. For whatever reason, probably financial, they decided not to commit and signed Ajeti.”

Brentford signed for £5m which could rise to 10 with add ons. Celtic would’ve got for cheaper as he wanted the move
