Kemar Roofe has failed in his appeal against a two match suspension for his brutal lunge at Murray Davidson of St Johnstone.

Twenty minutes into the match the former Anderlecht star showed the same level of ball control as Kenny Miller then lunged in high and dangerous at Davidson in full view of referee David Munro.

Why the referee only issued a yellow card for the attack is anyone’s guess but with a place on the lucrative FIFA circuit Munro is clearly the right type of official for the SFA.

It is the third time in two months that retrospective red cards have been issued to Ibrox players for honest mistakes by match officials.

All three incidents occurred during the first half of matches won by the odd goal by Mister Gerrard’s side. Retrospective suspensions are of little use to Dundee United, Hibs and St Johnstone.

Remarkably the league leaders haven’t had a player sent off in an SPFL match or conceded a penalty in 28 games.

This is believed to be a new world record alongwith having three retrospective red cards inside two months.

Scottish referees are sponsored by Specsavers, there are a large number of other opticians available.

Don Robertson will referee tonight’s match between St Mirren and Celtic.
