Sky Sports faces a Catch 22 position with paranoid Ibrox fans believing that they have bowed to pressure from Celtic fans to dump Kris Boyd.

The former Portland Timbers goal ace has been almost an ever present on Sky’s coverage of the SPFL this season but last night John Collins was on duty at the St Mirren v Celtic match.

According to the Daily Record the decision had nothing to do with complaints and a petition raised by Celtic fans but that hasn’t convinced many in charge of the fabled blue pound.

With BBC Scotland in a long running stand off with the Ibrox club, Radio Clyde are the latest broadcaster to fall foul of the sensitive minds inside Ibrox that see agendas and conspiracies in every comment and action around the Scottish game.

How Boyd has made the transaction from playing into the world of broadcasting is something or a mystery with his ‘analysis’ predictable and bland adding nothing for the viewer.

Michael Stewart and Chris Sutton have both demonstrated an ability to express themselves and remain independent with their thoughts.

Other than sniggering like a schoolkid at results going against Celtic to pander to the Ibrox audience Boyd appears to add nothing to Sky’s coverage.

Sky is a commercial organisation going for numbers and volumes rather than picking up awards for their thought provoking coverage which guides every decision.

On Sunday they’ll be screening the St Johnstone v Celtic match, if Boyd is on duty hoops fans will be switching off until kick-off time, if he’s watching from a studio far away the broadcaster faces the anger of Ibrox subscribers furious at how their former striker has been forced out of live coverage.
