Kris Boyd’s absence from live coverage of the St Mirren  v Celtic match had nothing to do with a petition launched by Hoops fans to have the former Kilmarnock striker removed from their matches.

John Collins came in from the cold to join James McFadden and Eilidh Barbour on the commentary platform at Paisley as the hoops scored four times without reply.

Boyd has been virtually ever present with Sky Sports this season including Celtic’s recent matches at home to Hibs and on the road at Livingston and Kilmarnock. Rather than share his views in the live coverage of the match he was in a studio following the action for Sky Sports News.

Through the week Boyd appears on Sky Sports News to share opinions on all matters Scottish while fronting a weekly podcast with Andy Walker.

Celtic fans recently launched a petition to have Boyd removed from coverage of their matches but that didn’t impact on last night’s coverage according to the Daily Record:

Sky do not use Boyd for every single game and Record Sport understands his absence from the main match programme cannot be attributed to a section of Celtic fans’ demands.
