Celtic fans were given some encouragement over their next manager with tweets from the Gonzagga account.
For almost a decade the Twitter account, named after a famous Private School in Dublin, had lain dormant before exploding to life with a range of Celtic related tweets.
The Twitter sleuths were quickly on the case, checking through previous intermittent tweets, like and noting the accounts followed. The not unreasonable assumption was made that it could be the work of someone close to Dermot Desmond, Celtic’s biggest shareholder.
When the Irish businessman has got involved Celtic have tended to make ambitious, successful appointments. Tony Mowbray, Neil Lennon and Ronny Deila have been seen as the appointments of the soon to depart CEO.
Over the last month Steve Clarke, Rafa Benitez and Eddie Howe have been short priced bookies favourites to become the next Celtic manager with the market viewed suspiciously as a publicity vehicle for the industry.
A handful of bets on any candidate is likely to have the odds-makers running for cover and wondering if someone with inside knowledge has infiltrated the market.
Since Lennon resigned there has been speculation over dozens of names but with no Director of Football, an out-going CEO and a chairman that won’t make hasty decisions the Recruitment process is something of a mystery.
A proper manager, fully funded and backed like Brendan Rodgers would be ideal, how accurate Gonzagga is remains to be seen but with Peter Lawwell on his way out and apparent interest from the largest shareholder there are cautious grounds for optimism.
I think the next few months are going to be exciting for Celtic fans all things going well. I also think the bookmakers, for once, are way off the pace so keep your cash in your pocket.

Tip. The name with most traction has not appeared in any media or speculation I’ve seen so far nor quoted in any bookmaker I’ve seen.

I believe he is out.

I do not think that’s realistic. Martin O’Neill couldn’t entice Mark Viduka to stay. Players leave for money and a perceived higher standard of league.

Before today I would have said no chance. I now think it’s a real possibility.
