John Collins has put his name forward to become Celtic’s Director of Football.

Peter Lawwell’s departure allows a non-accountant to play a crucial role in shaping the club, someone with a firm grasp of the game leaving the spread-sheets to Dominic McKay.

Collins had a fantastic playing career starting off at Hibs and Celtic before moving on to Monaco, Everton and Fulham. While with the French side he was introduced to a whole new concept in training which he has retained ever since.

In 2007 he won the League Cup as manager of Hibs but he quit soon after. At Celtic, Charleroi and Livingston he has been involved in a variety of roles which have never quite felt like the proper fit for his talents.

Picking up on a discussion about Celtic’s Director of Football during an interview with BBC Sportsound, the Daily Record reports Collins saying:

I believe I’ve got the skillset. Of course it would be of interest to me. Celtic’s played a big part of my life but I know there’s a lot of experienced people in for the job.
