Scott Brown is expected to be named as part of the new Aberdeen management team this week.

The 35-year-old joined Celtic from Hibs in 2007 for a Scottish record fee of £4m but after winning 10 championship medals he is set to quit the club as a massive overhaul begins. Since the turn of the year Neil Lennon has resigned with Peter Lawwell retiring in June.

Keith Jackson has got his wires crossed now and then with billionaires but has been a close contact of Brown since his Hibs days and is in little doubt that one of the greatest Celtic careers is about to end.

Last night he broke the news to Daily Record readers:

Scott Brown is on the verge of agreeing a deal to move to Aberdeen this week where he will become Stephen Glass’ No.2.

The Celtic skipper held talks with Pittodrie chairman Dave Cormack and he and former Hibs team mate Glass are expected to be confirmed in the next 48 hours.

Record Sport understands Glass was officially interviewed for the position last week and Brown will also be unveiled as part of a managerial dream team after opting to bring the curtain down on his Parkhead career at the end of this season following 14 years at the club.

The 35-year-old has been offered a new one-year deal to stay on in Glasgow’s East End and help with a huge summer rebuild.

But, with no certainty as to the identity of the next Celtic boss, Brown has been convinced the next chapter of his career lies in the North-East.

It’s understood he verbally agreed to make the move during talks with Cormack after putting on a man-of-the match display in Sunday’s Old Firm showdown.

Brown and Glass played together at Easter Road with Dons chief Dave Cormack putting his faith in the current Atalanta United reserve boss to take over from Derek McInnes.

It appears to have taken Aberdeen less than a fortnight to come up with a new manager, at the start of December Celtic announced a managerial review that doesn’t appear to have come to any conclusion. Almost four months later the club is without a manager, awaiting a CEO arriving in July and facing a massive squad overhaul.

Losing Brown at some stage was inevitable but with the entire club in a state of limbo it seemed an obvious move to give him a deal that would ensure he remained at Celtic to play a role in the summer handover.
