Steven Gerrard has claimed that Slavia Prague officials have called him a liar.

The Ibrox boss watched his side lose their first match of 2021 as Slavia Prague outplayed them in a 2-0 Europa League win at Ibrox.

Without the insurance policy of a Scottish referee Kemar Roofe and Leon Balogun were red carded, something that hasn’t happened in 34 domestic matches this season.

Late in the match a number of Ibrox players rounded on Slavia’s Ondrej Kudela who had whispered to Glen Kamara with Gerrard making an issue of it after the match.

The Ibrox boss refused to give any detail of what was said to Kamara but BT Sport viewers had already been informed of the tone by Alex Rae and Stephen Craigan.

The Sun reports Gerrard saying:

The disappointing thing for me is there is people trying to defend the opposition player. Their people, trying to defend it, trying to defend him, calling us liars.

That’s for other people to deal with. All I say now is that I stand by Glen Kamara 100 per cent. You build relationships in football and I’ve built a very, very strong relationship with Glen Kamara.

Glen Kamara is like one of my own, like all of them in that dressing room. I 100% believe him in what he is saying in terms of the accusation – other players around it heard it.

So I will stand toe-to-toe with Glen Kamara and I will deal with this however he wants to deal with it.

UEFA seem certain to investigate the scenes late on in the match as well as Kemar Roofe’s red card incident.
