Celtic face new Odsonne Edouard dilemma

Whoever becomes the next Celtic manager faces a fresh issue with Odsonne Edouard.

The striker was on form for the French u-21 side during the international break and is a certainty to be involved in their squad for the Olympic Games being held in Japan.

With the matches in the 16 team competition being held between July 21 and August 7 Edouard won’t be seeing much of his club in pre-season.

France takes part in the last eight of the European Championships at the end of May and start of June this year followed by a few weeks off before the squad gets together for the Olympics.

Edouard is under contract with Celtic until June 2022, as most clubs know the last 12 months of a contract can often be worthless as the clock ticks down towards the Golden Ticket of a free transfer.

With Patryk Klimala, Albian Ajeti and Leigh Griffiths failing to make any worthwhile impact this season the decision to sell Edouard isn’t as obvious as it may seem.

If the Frenchman is sold the next manager will need to find a striker ready to hit the ground running with Champions League qualifiers scheduled to start in mid-July.
