Patryk Klimala looks to be dropping out of the picture at Celtic with speculation that he could be on his way to New York RB.

For the second week running the striker failed to make Celtic’s matchday squad with Odsonne Edouard, Albian Ajeti and Leigh Griffiths all given game time in the 6-0 win over Livingston with a vital match coming up at Ibrox next weekend.

Klimala was on the fringes of Neil Lennon’s plans but was brought in to start John Kennedy’s first match in charge at home to Aberdeen on February 27.

Against Dundee United and in the Glasgow Derby he has been back on the bench but with nine substitutes available the 22-year-old has missed out over the last two matches.

On April 1 (date is a coincidence) The Sun reported:

CELTIC striker Patryk Klimala is a target for New York Red Bulls. It’s believed they are eyeing a potential loan deal with the MLS transfer window open until June 1 due to the pandemic.

Klimala was signed from Polish side Jagiellonia in January 2020 but his arrival was at exactly the same time as Griffiths found form alongside Edouard.

With a contract running through until May 2024 there is still a lengthy contract between the player and club but a loan move to the MLS suggests that Celtic are trying to salvage something from the £3.5m deal rather than playing the Polish u-21 internationalist.

Earlier this year Celtic sold Cameron Harper to New York RB.
