Davie Provan hasn’t fully given up on Roy Keane being appointed Celtic manager.

For over a week the speculation seemed informed that the Irishman was about to return to management but over the last couple of days the signs have been pointing towards Eddie Howe.

The former Bournemouth boss would be a highly popular appointment among Celtic fans but with his media background Provan would love to see his Sky Sports colleague on the other side of the cameras.

In The Sun the former Celtic winger writes:

EDDIE HOWE is in the box seat to succeed Neil Lennon. Can’t argue with the job he did at Bournemouth nor with the way he handles himself. But the Cherries’ quaint Vitality Stadium is Sleepy Hollow compared to the demands of managing Celtic.

It would be interesting to see how he’d handle the heat. Part of me hopes Roy Keane makes a late run to win the gig. If only to see those dissing Keane from a safe distance having to front up at his first media conference.

After the developments of the last few days it seems only a matter of time before Howe ends his exile from management.

In August he resigned as Bournemouth boss when relegation brought an end to their five year stay in the EPL.

The Celtic job will involve a massive rebuild but having taken Bournemouth from League Two into the top half of the EPL it shouldn’t be a job that overwhelms the 43-year-old.
