Graeme Souness wants Roy Keane to become Celtic manager to make Scottish football attractive worldwide.

Others might suggest that the former Newcastle boss wants to create a freak show while Celtic fans look for a manager to take the club forward in Europe.

Keane has been out of management for more than a decade, most Sunday’s he shares a studio with Souness covering EPL games for Sky Sports.

Ipswich Town and Sunderland have previously appointed Keane as manager but over the last decade his only involvement has been as an assistant at Aston Villa, Ireland and Nottingham Forest.

The Sun reports Souness saying:

Roy is desperate to get back. He’s a football man and I have spoken with him about returning to management. He is very keen to do that.

Can you imagine how good it will be if it is Roy Keane vs Steven Gerrard in Glasgow. All of a sudden, it wouldn’t just be Scotland, Ireland and a wee bit of England talking about Scottish football. The world would be talking about it. It would be a great thing for Scottish football.

Souness left Scottish football in 1991 for Liverpool after five eventful years at Ibrox during which he spent heavily bringing in English players.

It is seven weeks since Neil Lennon resigned but repeated polls from Celtic fans have rejected any prospect of Keane taking charge of the Hoops.
