Jack Hendry’s incredible season has continued with the Player of the Year award from Belgian Magazine Sport Voetbal.

Last summer the defender was injured and about sixth in the pecking order at Celtic with Hatem Abd Elhamed and Nir Bitton ahead of him in the queue for places in Neil Lennon’s side.

There wasn’t a single dissenting voice from any fans when he was sent on loan to Belgian strugglers Oostende to eat up one of the two years left on his contract.

Hendry was bracketed in among the worst signings made in the last decade but made an instant impact on Oostende when he got his chance in October.

Week by week the impressive reports continued, Oostende were in the mix for a European place with the Sport Voetbal award confirming an incredible turn around.

His top score of 6.48 over the 34 games was enough to take top spot over Junya Ito, Genk’s Japanese winger. He told Sport Voetbal: “Of course I am incredibly proud of it [the award]. This recognition by the largest football magazine in Belgium is a great honor.”

Oostend have a buy out option on Hendry’s loan deal from Celtic and could make a quick profit by selling him to a couple of watching English sides.
