Even in this dismal season Diego Laxalt turned in one of the worst performances seen by a Celtic player.

The Uruguayan made his debut in the October Derby and was one of the few to escape criticism that day, six months on he is the Number One fall guy, hooked off at half-time with Celtic trailing 2-0 with both goals coming down the left-flank.

There were plenty of others at fault in today’s win, Odsonne Edouard turned in one of his weakest ever displays but the Frenchman has some credit in the bank from previous campaigns.

Laxalt arrived from AC Milan with high hopes of solving a problem position but it quickly became clear that defending, playing in a line, tracking back and following instructions was fairly alien to him.

His arrival coincided with a slump in Celtic’s form through the autumn, he wasn’t responsible for that but bringing him back into the side for today’s match proved to be a massive mistake on John Kennedy’s part.

Greg Taylor is no Kieran Tierney but he has a grasp of the basic defending techniques, in the 84th minute he snatched the ball away from Joe Aribo when the former Charlton man looked certain to make it 3-0.

Today’s defeat brought a line down on a season of misery from Celtic, no matter what cut-price fee that he is available for its unlikely that the next manager will see Laxalt as part of Celtic’s solutions.
