John McGarry of the Daily Mail doesn’t believe that Celtic fans should be alarmed that the club hasn’t yet announced Eddie Howe as their new manager.

Since last Thursday there has been increased speculation that the former Bournemouth boss was heading to Glasgow with reports of face-to-face meetings and agreements in principle.

With Howe currently out of the game and John Kennedy installed as Interim Manager there doesn’t appear to be any obstacles in the way but following the Easter weekend there was no announcement this morning.

Crystal Palace and Newcastle are rumoured to be interested in bringing in Howe but with managers in place at the moment the Celtic job seems more clear cut.

I don’t think that there is any cause for alarm from the point of view of Celtic supporters. There has been an agreement in principle albeit that no-one has put pen to paper on it yet. Fundamentally there are just discussions over what happens next, which job, which responsibilities.

I’m not surprised that negotiations have taken this length of time given the summer of transition Eddie Howe is going to walk into.

I know people have been talking about the Crystal Palace vacancy, there is no question that Eddie Howe is a manager that Crystal Palace are very interested in, it now looks almost certain that Roy Hodgson will leave in the summer but it looks like Celtic have won the battle for hearts and minds.

I think that Sean Dyche and Steve Cooper of Swansea seem to the two that they are looking at.

Celtic did announce today that Dom McKay will start work alongside Peter Lawwell on April 19 which at least advances one of the key positions for next season.

Appointing a Director of Football seems to be an issue with Fergal Harkin believed to be the preference of Celtic while Howe is thought to want Richard Hughes from Bournemouth to be part of his backroom team.
