The Daily Record has claimed that the ‘Old Firm’s move to join a British Super League is a non-starter.

Since a report emerged late on Wednesday night there has been the predictable follow up of speculation of how wonderful and lucrative everything would be.

The idea has been bouncing around for decades without getting anywhere but has been bizarrely revived on the back of the short-lived European Super League.

Out of the ashes of the ESL it seems like there is some movement towards including two Scottish clubs to share in the riches of the EPL which is the football competition which annually generates more money from broadcasting and sponsorships than any others.

With the alleged top six clubs looking to tap into more lucrative markets and the other 14 wanting to protect their own cut of the action it is difficult to work out who would benefit from two new Scottish competitors.

In the middle of an interview with Alan Stubbs about how utterly massive the ‘Old Firm’ would be in England they reveal:

Record Sport understands the plan is a non-starter as England’s big six – who would benefit from any move – have to keep their heads down after the Super League disaster. The other 14 teams in the Premier League have very little interest in letting the Old Firm take a slice of their dwindling pie.

Should some sort of agreement be reached with the current EPL there would then be the SFA, SPFL and UEFA to get agreement with. An unlikely prospect.
