Jesse Marsch has still to renew his contract at RB Salzburg with the Celtic job lying vacant.

Last month the 47-year-old American took the unusual step of being interviewed by Radio Scotland during which he revealed how he had started his professional coaching career with Celtic at Lennoxtown. His contract with Salzburg runs until May 2022.

It’s not often that a Scottish broadcaster randomly decides to interview the manager of a club in central Europe but there wasn’t any public follow up from Celtic.

Marsch started out in management with New York RB, became assistant manager of RB Leipzig in July 2018 then took charge of RB Salzburg a year later.

On Thursday Austrian publisher SPOX reported:

Freund reveals that there are no offers for the two stocks Patson Daka and Jesse Marsch. “There’s nothing at the table yet, we’re in an intensive exchange with his agent. I think there are many interested parties because he has developed really well. We’ll see, but I think he has a really good market in European football “says friend about Daka.

There is nothing new to report about Trainer Marsch: “Unfortunately there is no news. No club has contacted us. Jesse is doing really well with us. He still has one year of contract. He is really hot that we will win the title Get Salzburg, if possible two titles again and that’s what his focus is on.”

Salzburg are currently seven points clear of Rapid Vienna and well on course for another Austrian title.

Marsch appears close to the top of the RB coaching ladder with just the manager’s job at Leipzig as a further step. If that isn’t looking likely the impressive American could well be looking for a different challenge that should be of interest to Celtic.
