Davie Provan has called out Show Racism the Red Card as resembling a glorified PR stunt.

For over a decade the charity group has provided a box ticking exercise for the football authorities in the so-called war against racism in Scottish football.

Twice in 2019 sections of Ibrox were closed off by UEFA as punishment for racist actions by their own fans, no such sanction has ever been taken by the SFA or SPFL.

Down the years the highlight of Show Racism the Red Card is a weekend where players from all clubs hold up a red card before kick-off. Pictures are taken and some old pros get to visit schools and preach their anti-racist messages. Derek Ferguson and Mark Hateley are regulars.

Over the last month Scottish football has discovered an army of anti-racism activists with Slavia Prague the target for their anger.

Provan has witnessed all sorts of issues swept under the carpet, writing in The Sun he spelled out a few uncomfortable home truths:

I know there are players doing good work for the Show Racism the Red Card charity, but for too long it’s resembled a glorified PR stunt.

Here in the best wee country in the world, bigotry is rife — you don’t have to look far to find it. How can we lecture others on intolerance when sectarianism still blights our everyday life?

Following Slavia’s visit to Ibrox UEFA has suspended Kemar Roofe for four matches and Glen Kamara for three games.
