Steven Gerrard’s cup jinx has struck again with the serial loser losing out for the sixth time as Ibrox boss.

Tonight after going ahead in the 118th minute against St Johnstone at Ibrox through James Tavernier the home side chucked it away in spectacular fashion.

Zander Clark came up to help set up an equaliser for Chris Kane in stoppage time to force the match into penalty kicks.

Tav was first to flop with a shot straight at Clark who later on saved from Kemar Roofe to provide Ali McCann with the chance to win the tie from the penalty spot.

Greegsy didn’t stand a chance as the Northern Irish internationalist smashed the ball into the net in front of an empty Copland Road Stand to dump the home side out of the competition.

In his first season as manager Gerrard lost out to Aberdeen in both cup competitions, last season Celtic and Hearts ended his cup dreams.

Back in December St Mirren ended his Betfred Cup hopes, tonight St Johnstone are on course for their third trophy in a decade.
