Three second half goals crushed Falkirk’s resistance and booked Celtic’s place in the last 16 of the Scottish Cup.
The visitors goal had lived a charmed life in the first half with Celtic looking rusty in the penalty box as they failed to make the breakthrough despite a succession of corners.
A minute into the second half Leigh Griffiths almost opened the scoring with a front post effort but Falkirk’s luck ran out in the 54th minute.
Cutting in from the right to pick up a Tom Rogic pass. James Forrest fired at goal with a deflection taking it past the keeper into the net.
Two minutes later it was Ryan Christie that found the net with a low 20 yard effort that killed off any prospect of the game going to extra-time.
Five minutes after replacing Forrest Moi Elyounoussi showed two great touches to score Celtic’s third to give the side a lift as they prepare for the final stretch and the goal of lifting a fifth successive Scottish Cup.
