Celtic have been credited with an interest in Mika Marmol.

The 19-year-old appears to have made a favourable impression in his debut season with the Barcelona B side with Getafe and Mallorca also reported to be keen on the left-back.

Marmol is described as a left-sided central defender which fits the bill for a priority area in need of strengthening although his age would suggest that he’s not ready to go straight into regular first team action.

As a Spanish u-20 internationalist and as part of the Barcelona Academy Marmol certainly has a pedigree to take notice of.

Mundo Deportivo reports:

In his first professional season in the subsidiary of the FC Barcelona , Mika Marmol , 19, it has been one of the revelations of the season. His good campaign has not gone unnoticed outside the Estadi Johan Cruyff and has aroused the interest of several First Division clubs, who have already asked about the situation of the left-handed central defender, who can also play as a winger. Celtic from Glasgow , Getafe and Mallorca , who have just been promoted to the First Division, have already been interested to be able to incorporate him in the future.

Mika , U-20 international with Spain, has been this season the second most used player by Barça B coach Javier García Pimienta, only surpassed by Arnau Comas . The Canterano culé has played a total of 2,060 minutes this season, divided into 25 games in which he has played in his two positions: 14 times as a left-back and 11 as a center-back, on the left-handed side of the Blaugrana subsidiary’s rear. In addition to his defensive work, the Egarense player, emerged from the Jàbac de Terrassa , has been participative in attack: two goals in attack and one assist.

At the end of the season Celtic were down to three central defenders in Kris Ajer, Stephen Welsh and Nir Bitton with Welsh the only one of that trio not linked with a move away from the club.

Leo Hjelde will return with precious first team experience from Ross County while Adam Montgomery made one appearance at left-back as last season petered out.

It seems that Celtic’s scouting and recruitment is still functioning but with no manager of Head of Football Operations it is unlikely that firm decisions will be getting made.
