A claim that Eddie Howe has agreed to become the next Celtic manager has been picked up and published by the Daily Mail.

The initial claim was made by Alex Crook of Talksport. His claim appeared to carry nothing fresh with the well-used claim that the former Bournemouth boss is quietly putting together his backroom team ahead of the official announcement.

At the start of April it was reported that Howe had held face-to-face talks with Dermot Desmond and Dom McKay but various suggested announcement dates have come and gone without the story really moving forward.

No other candidates have emerged over the last seven weeks but while there is no announcement there will always be doubt over reports of a ‘done deal’.

This afternoon Adam Shergold of the Daily Mail reported:

Eddie Howe ‘has agreed a deal to become the new Celtic manager’ and will take over in the summer.

The 43-year-old, who left Bournemouth after eight years in charge last August, is reportedly finalising his backroom staff for the Parkhead job.

TalkSPORT say Howe has agreed to take on the challenge of wrestling the Scottish Premiership title back from Old Firm rivals Rangers.

While there is a need to drive website traffic some checks would have been made on the story before it was repeated on the pages of the Daily Mail.
